September/October 2009

Hi everyone!

Wow, what a busy few weeks we have had in Seomra Shona. We are all so glad that mid-term break has finally arrived. We all need a rest. Read below to find out what we have been up to.

Cooking

We love cooking in Seomra Shona. Every Friday from 9 to 10:30 you will find us in the kitchen cooking up a storm! So far this term we have made Fairy Cakes, Fruit Scones, Shortcake Biscuits, Gingerbread Men, Cheesy Halloween Pumpkins. We discovered that we needed to use alot of the same actions when making these treats. Actions like kneading, mixing, rolling, cutting, sieving. We really enjoy cooking and look forward to it every week.

Art

So far this term we have focused on the theme of Autumn. We have explored the variety of autumn colours and mixed primary colours to make them. Autumn colours we used were green, brown, yellow, red, orange. We painted pictures using apples, leaves and conkers. Have a look around the school and Seomra Shona to see some of our lovely artwork.

Baboro

During October we were all lucky enough to get to see some great shows at the Baboro festival. James and Brandy went to see a man singing and dancing with first class. Mihailo and Grady went to see a show called "Aaahh" with senior infants. Liam went to see a dance group with sixth class.

Halloween

On Friday October 23rd we were allowed to dress up for Halloween. It was great fun in the yard! James was a scary ghost, Brandy and Grady were two Frankensteins and Liam was a pumpkin.

We made some spooky halloween pictures and learned a song about halloween. We also made some halloween books with special halloween words. The words included web, spider, witch, cat, bat, candy.

So thats just a small bit of what we have been doing. We hope you enjoyed catching up with us. Enjoy the mid-term everyone and have a Happy Halloween!
